Higher Education Reforms. Considerations for Romania

Sorin Dan ŞANDOR, Ciprian TRIPON

Abstract

Universities world-wide are in a process of change. Higher education is no longer for the elite. It is more and more a mass market; with the trend being towards universal access. Regarding this trend problems of efficiency, accountability and quality have led to a wave of reforms. Based on experiences from „Babeş- Bolyai” University, especially in the Public Administration Department, we analyze how the Romanian education system is coping with the problems and which path of reform is best suited in this particular case.
