Competențele transversale necesare angajaților din industria IT: relevanță și impact

Adriana Cristian

Abstract

This study explores the role of transversal skills in the employability of IT professionals. While technical expertise is essential, employers increasingly value critical thinking, adaptability, communication, and teamwork. Using Human Capital Theory (Becker, 1964), PRISMA methodology (Abelha et al., 2020), and industry reports, the research identifies key competencies for workforce integration.

A mixed-methods approach, combining interviews with IT professionals and a survey of industry recruiters, reveals that problem-solving, technical skills, communication, and adaptability are most in demand. Leadership and creativity, though important, are seen as secondary for entry-level roles. Additionally, Romania’s occupational classification system (COR) is outdated and fails to reflect transversal skills, making it a bureaucratic rather than a practical tool for workforce development.

The findings underscore the need for stronger collaboration between academia, industry, and public administration to align education with market demands. Universities should integrate transversal and digital skills into the curricula, while policymakers must support reforms to enhance workforce adaptability and employability.
